In a significant push to enhance road safety, the Bokaro district administration organised a special health camp that provided free medical check-ups to over 600 men, predominantly drivers of buses, trucks, and auto-rickshaws. The initiative was a key part of the ongoing 36th National Road Safety Month, observed nationwide from January 1 to 31.
Health Screening at the Heart of Transport Hub
The camp was strategically set up at the busy Naya Moad bus stand to ensure maximum participation from commercial vehicle operators. The district transport department and the district health department jointly organised the programme under the broader Road Safety Month campaign. The primary objective was to identify and address health issues among drivers that could potentially impair their driving ability and lead to accidents.
Comprehensive Checks for Safer Roads
Medical teams conducted thorough examinations, with a special focus on vision-related problems which are critical for safe driving. General health parameters like blood pressure were also screened. Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha stated that drivers found with high blood pressure readings were advised to take prescribed medication and ensure they get adequate rest. Doctors associated with the camp emphasised that the drive was aimed at preemptively tackling health concerns that directly impact road safety.
Promoting Awareness and Rule Adherence
Beyond the medical screenings, the camp served as an awareness platform. Drivers who attended were strongly urged to strictly observe traffic rules for their own safety and the safety of others on the road. This holistic approach—combining health intervention with safety advocacy—highlights the administration's multi-pronged strategy to curb road accidents in Bokaro. The overwhelming turnout of over 600 drivers underscores the community's engagement with this crucial public safety issue.
