More than 60 people fell ill after consuming prasad at a religious ceremony in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district on Sunday. The incident occurred during a kirtan (devotional singing) event in the Ram Nagar area under the Satrikh police station limits.
Incident Details
The devotees began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness, and stomach pain shortly after eating the prasad. They were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Satrikh and later referred to the district hospital for further treatment.
According to local authorities, the condition of all affected individuals is stable, and no fatalities have been reported. Medical teams have been deployed to monitor the situation.
Investigation Underway
District Magistrate of Barabanki, Adarsh Singh, stated that a probe has been ordered into the incident. Food safety officials have collected samples of the prasad for laboratory testing to determine the cause of the contamination.
“We are investigating the matter thoroughly. The prasad samples have been sent for analysis, and action will be taken against those responsible if negligence is found,” Singh said.
Previous Incidents
This is not the first such case in Uttar Pradesh. In recent months, several food poisoning incidents have been reported during religious gatherings, raising concerns about food hygiene standards at mass events.
Authorities have urged organizers of such events to ensure that prasad and other food items are prepared under hygienic conditions to prevent such occurrences.
The affected individuals are currently receiving medical care, and their families have been informed. The district administration has assured all necessary support.
