In a deeply tragic incident that has shocked the Para area of Lucknow, two young sisters ended their lives on Thursday. The women, aged 22 and 24, allegedly took the extreme step due to overwhelming distress over the failing health of their beloved pet dog.
A Bond That Ended in Tragedy
According to statements given to the police by grieving family members, the siblings were extremely attached to their German Shepherd. The dog had been battling a serious illness for a considerable period. Despite being under medical treatment, the pet's condition had shown no signs of improvement and was consistently worsening. This prolonged suffering of their canine companion reportedly caused immense mental anguish to the sisters.
The Fateful Day's Events
The sequence of events on Thursday paints a somber picture. The mother of the deceased stated that she had sent her daughters to a nearby shop to buy groceries around 11 am. After returning home, both sisters suddenly fell ill and collapsed. They were immediately rushed to a hospital. Medical professionals at the facility declared the elder sister, 24, dead on arrival. The younger sister, 22, fought for her life but succumbed to the poison the same evening.
Doctors informed the family that the cause of death was poison consumption. Following this, police officials searched the women's room in the house and discovered a bottle of phenyl. No suicide note was found at the scene.
Police Investigation and Family Background
Para Police Station Inspector Suresh Singh confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently underway. He stated that the preliminary information suggests the women's actions were linked to their ailing pet. The bodies have been handed over to the family for last rites, and further legal procedures are being followed.
Inspector Singh also noted that the sisters were known to have struggled with mental health issues and tended to keep to themselves. The family resides in the Para locality, where the father runs a small grocery store. The brother of the deceased works as a property dealer.
This heartbreaking incident underscores the profound bonds people can share with their pets and highlights the critical need for accessible mental health support and awareness within communities to help individuals cope with extreme emotional distress.
