In a refreshingly honest conversation, veteran actor Rohit Roy has opened up about the often-overlooked topic of men's mental health and the unique ways he manages stress. The 57-year-old actor, recently seen in the film 'Controll' and the series 'Metro... In Dino', shared his personal coping mechanisms during a candid chat on the 'Sharduology' podcast.
Retail Therapy: Shoes and Watches as Stress Busters
When the podcast host humorously suggested that men typically deal with stress by either buying a car or having an affair, Rohit Roy had a witty and revealing response. The actor joked that he wasn't "allowed" to do either, before divulging his own preferred method of emotional release: shopping.
"A man does a lot of things to deal with his emotions. For example, I go shopping for a watch whenever I feel stressed," Roy stated. He elaborated on his particular fondness for footwear, disclosing an impressive collection. "I also buy shoes because I can easily afford them. My best friend and I have about 150 pairs of shoes," he shared, referring to his close friend and fellow actor, Sameer Soni.
Roy explained that he and Soni have fully embraced the idea that shopping is a legitimate stress reliever. "Buying 20,000 rupees worth of shoes makes us happy and relieves our stress," he added. The two friends have even formed a habit of sharing photos of their purchases and daily activities with each other, highlighting the importance of camaraderie.
A Firm Stance on Affairs and Weakness
Rohit Roy also addressed the podcast host's second point about men having affairs due to stress. He offered a blunt perspective, stating that while he couldn't be entirely sure, he believes stress is often used as a convenient excuse for such actions.
"You have an affair either out of boredom or attraction to someone else. Sometimes also because your own life is not going the way you plan — but these are all weaknesses," Roy asserted. He concluded with a powerful statement, "Anybody who uses it as an excuse is probably the biggest coward on earth." This clear-cut opinion underscores his belief in personal accountability.
Friendship as a Pillar of Support
Beyond material purchases, Roy emphasized the value of strong friendships in his life. He specifically named Manish Paul as "a great friend," revealing the depth of his personal connections. His bond with Sameer Soni, built over years and cemented by shared interests like their expansive shoe collections, further illustrates how social support systems play a crucial role in managing daily pressures.
By sharing these personal anecdotes, Rohit Roy provides a rare glimpse into the private lives of public figures and contributes to a broader, necessary dialogue on how men navigate emotional well-being in today's world.
