14-Year-Old Girl Dies by Suicide in Gurgaon, Mental Distress Followed Surgery
Class 9 student dies by suicide in Gurgaon home

A 14-year-old girl tragically ended her life on Sunday at her family home in Gurgaon's Mahavir Pura area. The incident, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Sector-5 police station, has left the community in shock. Preliminary investigations by the authorities have ruled out any suspicion of foul play.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The young victim was a Class 9 student originally hailing from Nawada district in Bihar. According to statements given by her family to the police, the girl had undergone an appendix surgery approximately four months ago. Following this medical procedure, her behavior reportedly changed significantly, and she began exhibiting clear signs of mental distress.

Despite her family's efforts to counsel and support her, her state of mind did not improve. Facing financial limitations, the family took her back to their native village in Bihar for further treatment. Unfortunately, this change of location also failed to bring about any positive change in her condition.

The Final Day and Police Investigation

On the morning of December 14, the family was at home with the father on the terrace and the mother in the courtyard. The girl entered a room alone and, using a dupatta, hanged herself. After she did not emerge for a long period, her mother grew concerned and knocked on the door. Getting no reply, the family broke open a window to find her hanging.

She was rushed immediately to the Sector-10 civil hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The hospital authorities subsequently informed the police, setting the official investigation in motion.

Forensic Examination and Family Statements

The police took custody of the body and initiated inquest proceedings. A forensic team thoroughly inspected the room and collected relevant evidence. No suicide note was discovered at the scene. Investigating Officer Sandeep confirmed that statements from all family members were recorded, and nothing suspicious emerged from their accounts.

The police officer stated, "There were no injury or struggle marks other than those consistent with hanging. So, prima facie there is no suspicion." After the mandatory autopsy was conducted on Monday, the teenager's body was handed over to her grieving family.

Family Background and Aftermath

The girl's father works as a printer mechanic, while her mother is a homemaker. The deceased was the eldest of three siblings. The police have concluded their initial investigation, attributing the extreme step to the prolonged mental distress the girl suffered post her surgery, which persisted despite family support and counselling.

This heartbreaking case underscores the critical need for accessible mental healthcare, especially for adolescents facing physical and emotional challenges. The Gurgaon police have filed the necessary reports and consider the case closed based on their findings of no external foul play.
