Union Minister Lauds Medical Education Transformation at Convocation

Pune: Union Minister of State for Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav, on Thursday lauded the rapid transformation of medical education in India, emphasizing improved infrastructure and a renewed focus on quality and inclusivity. He was speaking at Bharati Vidyapeeth’s 27th convocation ceremony, which also saw author, philanthropist, and Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murty being conferred with the Doctor of Letters (honoris causa).

In her online address, Murty urged students to embrace both success and failure as integral parts of life. She stressed that integrity, compassion, and resilience are important, and that true achievement lies not only in personal success but in uplifting others. "Life is neither a continuous journey of success nor is it defined by failure alone. It is a balance of both, together with the ability to learn from each experience," she said.

Degrees and Honors

Degrees were awarded to 9,066 graduates during the convocation. Additionally, 140 students received PhD degrees, and 27 students were honored with gold medals for academic excellence.

Minister's Remarks on Healthcare Education

Addressing the students, Jadhav said India’s healthcare education ecosystem is undergoing a significant shift, driven by policy reforms and increased institutional capacity. He noted that the country is producing more medical professionals who are globally competent and socially responsible. "India’s strength lies in its youth and its institutions," he said, adding that the graduating students would play a crucial role in strengthening the healthcare system.

University Progress Report

The ceremony was attended by Chancellor Shivajirao Kadam, Vice-Chancellor Vivek Saoji, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Vishwajeet Kadam, among others. Saoji presented a comprehensive report on the university’s progress, stating that the institution has established academic collaborations with over 200 national and international organizations. The university secured research funding exceeding Rs 28 crore from reputed agencies this year.

Jadhav’s remarks highlight the government’s commitment to enhancing medical education, with a focus on infrastructure and inclusivity, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet global healthcare challenges.
