Thiruvananthapuram: Parents File Police Case After Toddler's Death at Private Hospital
A tragic incident of alleged medical negligence has emerged in Thiruvananthapuram district, following the death of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, Ayesha Fathima. The child passed away after receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kattakada, sparking outrage and a formal police investigation.
Police Register Unnatural Death Case
Acting on a complaint filed by the grieving parents, the Aryanadu police have registered a case for unnatural death. The parents have leveled serious allegations against the hospital, claiming that negligence during treatment led to their daughter's untimely demise.
Sequence of Events Leading to Tragedy
According to the parents' account, Ayesha Fathima was first taken to the hospital on Wednesday with symptoms of fever. After receiving primary care, she was discharged and sent home. However, her condition deteriorated over the following days.
On Sunday, when the child developed severe breathing difficulties, she was rushed back to the same hospital. Her father has alleged that doctors administered an injection, after which she lost consciousness and collapsed. She was subsequently transferred to Neyyar Medicity for further treatment.
Hospital Denies Allegations of Negligence
Hospital authorities have firmly dismissed the allegations of medical negligence. Consultant paediatrician at Mamal Hospital, Dr. Arun Warrier, provided a different account of events. He stated that the child was brought to the hospital with severe breathing distress and was administered adrenaline as part of emergency treatment.
Dr. Warrier explained that when Ayesha Fathima was taken to Neyyar Medicity, she had only a faint pulse. Tragically, she was declared brought dead upon arrival at Medicity.
Autopsy Conducted, Results Awaited
The autopsy of Ayesha Fathima was conducted at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital on Monday. Medical authorities are currently awaiting the results, which are expected to provide crucial insights into the exact cause of death and help determine whether there was any medical negligence involved.
This case has highlighted concerns about medical practices in private hospitals and raised questions about patient safety protocols. The police investigation continues as authorities gather evidence and statements from all parties involved. The community awaits the autopsy results with bated breath, hoping for clarity in this heartbreaking situation.
