Tragic Death of Sikkim Urologist at International Conference in Indore

A prominent urologist from Sikkim, who had traveled to Indore to participate in the prestigious international urology conference, USICON-2026, tragically passed away in the early hours of Wednesday. The medical community is mourning the loss of Dr. Tsering (Doma) Bhutia, whose sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the healthcare fraternity.

Sudden Collapse During Presentation

Dr. Bhutia collapsed unexpectedly while delivering a presentation during a technical session at the conference on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred in front of fellow doctors and delegates who were attending the event. Witnesses reported that she suddenly lost consciousness while speaking, prompting immediate emergency response from those present at the venue.

Immediate Medical Response and Hospitalization

The doctors and delegates who were present at the conference venue rushed to Dr. Bhutia's aid without delay. They administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in an attempt to stabilize her condition. She was first transported to Life Care Hospital for initial treatment and was later referred to Apollo Hospital for more specialized care as her condition remained serious.

Underlying Medical Condition Revealed

Medical investigations conducted after her collapse revealed that Dr. Bhutia was suffering from a pre-existing brain aneurysm. Medical experts explained that an aneurysm represents a weak or thin spot on a blood vessel in the brain that balloons outward and fills with blood. In Dr. Bhutia's specific case, this vulnerable section of the vessel ruptured suddenly, leading to severe internal bleeding known medically as haemorrhage.

Critical Condition and Treatment Efforts

The rupture of the brain aneurysm caused Dr. Bhutia to experience immediate loss of consciousness and placed her in a critical medical state. She was placed on ventilator support as medical teams worked tirelessly to manage her condition. Despite these efforts, her health remained precarious throughout the following days.

Planned Transfer and Final Hospitalization

On Monday, as Dr. Bhutia's condition showed no significant improvement, there were discussions about airlifting her to Medanta Hospital in Mumbai for advanced treatment. However, her family ultimately decided to move her to Medanta Hospital in Indore instead. Tragically, she succumbed to her medical conditions on Wednesday morning while receiving care at the Indore facility.

Official Confirmation and Arrangements

Dr. Sanjay Geed, the medical director at Medanta Hospital, confirmed to media sources that "Dr. Bhutia succumbed to her medical conditions on Wednesday". He further stated that her body was being prepared for transportation back to her hometown in Sikkim, where final rites would be conducted according to family traditions and customs.

The medical community has expressed profound sadness over the loss of a dedicated professional who was actively contributing to her field at an international conference. The incident has highlighted the unpredictable nature of medical emergencies, even among healthcare professionals themselves.
