In a remarkable medical achievement, doctors at a private hospital in Bathinda saved a premature newborn who weighed just 1.2 kilograms at birth. The baby was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) immediately after delivery and received specialized care for 17 days before being discharged in stable condition.
Critical Condition at Birth
The infant was born prematurely at 32 weeks of gestation, with underdeveloped lungs and other vital organs. The baby faced breathing difficulties and was immediately placed on respiratory support. Dr. Anjali Gupta, the lead neonatologist, explained that the first few days were critical as the baby needed constant monitoring and care to prevent infections and ensure proper growth.
Multidisciplinary Approach
A team of pediatricians, nurses, and respiratory therapists worked round the clock to stabilize the newborn. The treatment included administering surfactant therapy to aid lung development, intravenous nutrition, and strict infection control protocols.
