Mysuru to Receive Major Rs 50 Crore Regional Endocrinology Centre

Mysuru is poised for a significant healthcare upgrade with the establishment of a 40-bed Regional Endocrinology Centre at the PKTB premises on KRS Road. The state government, which announced this centre for Mysuru and Kalaburagi in the 2025 budget, has completed land transfer and related processes, paving the way for this advanced medical facility.

Investment and Infrastructure Details

The Department of Medical Education has initiated steps to set up the centre at a cost of Rs 50 crore. This new facility will include 10 ICU beds among its 40 beds, ensuring critical care capabilities for patients with severe hormone-related conditions.

Scope of Treatment and Patient Impact

The centre will focus on the diagnosis and management of hormone-related disorders, providing specialized care for:

  • Diabetes and thyroid issues
  • Metabolic disorders impacting overall wellbeing
  • Adrenal disorders and osteoporosis
  • Growth hormone problems and pituitary issues
  • Reproductive health issues

According to Dr K R Dakshayini, Dean and Director of Mysuru Medical College Research Centre (MMCRI), the existing superspecialty hospital on KRS Road already records 120-150 patients daily with such conditions, highlighting the urgent need for this dedicated facility.

Regional Healthcare Benefits

Dr Dakshayini emphasized that the new centre will not only serve local residents but also benefit patients from neighbouring districts including Kodagu, Mandya, Hassan, and Chamarajanagar. This expansion aims to reduce the burden on existing healthcare infrastructure and provide accessible, specialized endocrinology care across the region.

The establishment of this Regional Endocrinology Centre marks a crucial step in enhancing Karnataka's healthcare landscape, addressing the growing prevalence of hormone-related diseases with state-of-the-art facilities and expert medical attention.
