Tragic Death of MBBS Student in Dehradun Hostel Under Police Investigation
A 19-year-old first-year MBBS student at the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences was discovered deceased in her hostel room in Dehradun on Friday, according to official statements. The student, originally from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was found unresponsive after hostel authorities alerted the police when she failed to respond for several hours and her room remained locked from the inside.
Police Break Open Door and Launch Investigation
Officials later forced open the door to find the student unresponsive. Dehradun SP (rural, Rishikesh) Jaya Baluni confirmed that no suicide note was recovered during the preliminary investigation. Her classmates reported that the student had been visibly distressed over the past few days following disagreements with a close male friend, who is also 19 years old and hails from Muzaffarnagar. The two attended lectures together and spent significant time on campus.
The male friend was questioned by authorities and acknowledged the disagreements but denied any knowledge of the exact reason behind her death. SP Baluni added, "We are examining her mobile phone and social media activity to ascertain the circumstances leading to her death. The body has been sent for postmortem, and the student's parents have been informed."
Families Aware of Friendship and Potential Marriage Discussions
Meanwhile, another police officer involved in the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the families of both the student and the male friend were aware of their friendship. The officer stated that the two had known each other since their time in Muzaffarnagar, with the boy frequently visiting her home.
"A few days ago, the girl's mother learned that her daughter had also become friends with another classmate and asked her to stop interacting with him. Given the closeness between the two families, the possibility of marriage had also been discussed earlier," the officer explained.
He further added that the mother had allegedly requested the male friend to monitor the student's activities and discourage her from speaking to other boys, which may have contributed to her distress. The investigation continues as police delve deeper into the events leading up to this tragic incident.
