Tragic Suicide of Young Doctor in Hyderabad Over Pet Cat Disagreement
A promising medical career has been cut short by a heartbreaking personal tragedy in Hyderabad. A 23-year-old MBBS graduate, identified as T Princy (also known as Sreshta), died by suicide on Friday afternoon in her Alwal residence. The incident occurred after prolonged disagreements with her family members regarding her decision to keep a pet cat at home.
Background of the Deceased and Family Conflict
Princy, a resident of Risala Bazar in Alwal, had recently completed her MBBS degree and was actively preparing for postgraduate medical studies. According to Alwal Sub-Inspector N Devender, the young doctor had brought a pet cat into the family home, which sparked continuous arguments with her relatives.
The family members strongly opposed the presence of the pet cat, expressing concerns that it was causing allergic reactions within the household. This disagreement created significant tension between Princy and her family, with the issue remaining unresolved despite multiple discussions.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The suicide occurred on Friday afternoon when Princy was alone in the family flat. Her parents had gone out to attend to personal work, leaving her by herself. According to police reports, Princy allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan in the hall of the residence.
"Her parents called to check if she had lunch, but when she did not answer, they asked neighbours to check on her," explained SI Devender. "The neighbours found her hanging from the ceiling fan in the hall."
Emergency Response and Police Investigation
Upon discovery of the situation, multiple emergency services were alerted:
- Local police immediately responded to the scene
- 108 ambulance staff were called for medical assistance
- Ambulance personnel declared Princy dead at the spot
The family members filed a formal complaint stating that Princy had been deeply upset about not being allowed to keep her pet cat and had consequently taken her own life. Police confirmed that no suicide note was found at the scene.
Legal Proceedings and Post-Mortem
Alwal police have registered a case under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to understand the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
The post-mortem examination was conducted at Gandhi Hospital, following which Princy's body was handed over to her grieving family members. The medical community has lost a young professional who had recently completed her undergraduate medical education and was poised to begin specialized training.
