In a significant clarification, the prominent Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospitals has officially refuted claims of its involvement in a tender bid for the proposed Adoni Medical College project in Andhra Pradesh. The denial comes days after the state government announced that KIMS had submitted a bid under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Official Denial and Stock Exchange Norms
In a press release issued on Friday, the Hyderabad-based hospital group categorically stated that it has not participated in any tender process related to the Adoni Medical College and Hospital project. The management further clarified that such a development is not under consideration by the company.
The hospital emphasized its status as a listed entity, bound by strict disclosure regulations. "As a listed enterprise, KIMS Hospitals is governed by strict disclosure norms and is mandated to promptly inform the stock exchanges of any material developments. No such disclosure has been made, as no such event occurred," the official statement read. This underscores that no formal bid process was initiated by the corporate entity.
Source of the Confusion Revealed
According to senior officials from the state health department, the confusion originated from a mistake made by the Andhra Pradesh Medical Services & Infrastructure Development Corporation (APMSIDC). The corporation reportedly identified the bidder, Dr. Prem Chand, as a representative of KIMS management.
Dr. Prem Chand is a former Director of KIMS and maintains an association with the hospital, but he did not submit the bid on behalf of the KIMS Hospitals corporate entity. One official directly placed the blame on APMSIDC, stating, "APMSIDC should be squarely blamed for the confusion and for having misled the health minister and the chief minister on the tender topic."
Path Forward for the Adoni Project
Officials have provided clarity on the next steps for the Adoni Medical College project. Since the bidder is not KIMS Hospitals, the proprietary entity that actually submitted the tender bid will be evaluated independently.
The process will proceed with a technical evaluation of all bids. If this particular entity qualifies technically, its financial bid will then be considered. Subject to meeting all necessary criteria, the project for the much-needed medical college and hospital in Adoni could be allotted to that independent entity.
This incident highlights the importance of precise communication in large-scale infrastructure projects, especially those following the PPP model which involves significant public interest and investment.
