Hathras Family Brings Live Snake to Hospital After Boy's Bite
In a dramatic incident aimed at ensuring prompt medical care, the family of a 10-year-old boy from Barsoli Prem Nagar village in Hathras rushed him to a hospital while carrying the very snake that had bitten him. Their quick thinking was driven by the hope that presenting the reptile would assist doctors in accurately identifying the species and administering the appropriate anti-venom without delay.
Panic in the Field as Snake Strikes Suddenly
The alarming event unfolded when Nirmal Kumar, a Class 5 student, was lifting a sack of cauliflower in an agricultural field. According to local witnesses, the snake had been concealed beneath the sack and launched a sudden attack, biting the boy and causing immediate panic among those present.
Reacting with urgency, family members managed to capture the snake, securing it inside a plastic container. They then transported both the child and the reptile to a nearby medical practitioner for initial assessment. Due to the severity of the situation, the boy was subsequently referred to the district hospital for specialized treatment.
First-Aid Measures and Swift Hospital Response
Nirmal's uncle, Prem Singh, recounted that the child screamed in intense pain right after the bite occurred. As an immediate first-aid step, the family tied a cloth tightly around his leg to help slow the spread of venom. They also captured the yellow-colored snake, which was estimated to be approximately 2 feet in length.
At the Hathras district hospital, medical professionals administered anti-venom injections and intravenous fluids while continuously monitoring the boy's vital signs. After several hours of careful observation, Nirmal was declared out of danger and discharged. "The boy responded well to treatment and was stabilised promptly," stated Surya Prakash, the chief medical superintendent (CMS) of Hathras district hospital.
Similar Incident Highlights Unusual Hospital Visits
This case echoes a comparable event earlier this year in Mathura, where a 39-year-old e-rickshaw driver named Deepak brought a live snake to a hospital after claiming it had bitten him. In that instance, Deepak pulled out a 1.5-foot-long snake from his jacket pocket while seeking treatment, startling patients and staff alike. Hospital authorities intervened immediately to manage the situation.
CMS Neeraj Agrawal from the Mathura hospital noted that the patient was promptly instructed to remove the reptile as it posed a significant risk to others in the medical facility. These incidents underscore the critical importance of proper snake identification in anti-venom administration and the extraordinary measures some individuals take in emergencies.
