A tragic incident unfolded at the Karur Government Medical College Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, where a 31-year-old man died by suicide. The deceased has been identified as Vinothkumar, son of Ravichandran, a resident of Vengamedu in Karur district.
A Life of Struggles and Setbacks
Vinothkumar worked as a daily wage labourer. According to sources close to the family, he had been actively searching for a bride for several years, facing repeated disappointments. Family members informed the police that these continuous setbacks led him to develop an addiction to alcohol.
Over the past few months, his mental health had deteriorated significantly, and he was experiencing considerable mental distress. The situation culminated on Monday when Vinothkumar was admitted to the Karur Government Medical College Hospital after complaining of sudden and severe stomach pain. He was receiving treatment on the hospital's sixth floor.
The Tragic Incident in the Hospital
In the early hours of Tuesday, when public movement within the hospital was at its minimum, Vinothkumar took a drastic step. He used his mother's saree to hang himself from the railing of the staircase on the sixth floor. Hospital staff discovered him unresponsive some time later and immediately alerted the authorities.
Police Investigation and Aftermath
Officials from the Pasupathipalayam police station rushed to the spot upon receiving the alert. They recovered the body and sent it for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The police have registered a case and a further investigation is currently underway to piece together the full sequence of events leading to this tragedy.
