The All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) in Mysuru marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD) with a significant event on Wednesday, focusing on empowerment and support. The day was packed with programs aimed at fostering a more inclusive society.
Dignitaries Emphasize Inclusion and Support
Mysuru City Corporation commissioner, Shaikh Tanveer Asif, graced the occasion as a key speaker. He commended AIISH for evolving into a premier center where scientific inquiry and empathy converge to address challenges. Asif stressed that every child has distinct talents and highlighted that timely intervention coupled with robust family support can unlock exceptional potential. He paid a special tribute to mothers of children with disabilities, describing them as unwavering pillars of strength whose dedication serves as a profound inspiration to the wider community.
Substantial Aid Distribution and Recognition
A major highlight of the event was the generous distribution of assistive devices. In a notable philanthropic gesture, the Frauscher Group provided cochlear accessories worth Rs 3 lakh and 220 hearing aids valued at Rs 15 lakh free of cost to beneficiaries. This substantial aid, totaling Rs 18 lakh, is set to significantly improve the lives of many.
AIISH director, Dr. M Pushpavathi, detailed the institute's ongoing initiatives designed for persons with disabilities. The ceremony also served as a platform to honor and felicitate several individuals. Recognition was given to:
- Those who have benefitted from AIISH's services and gone on to make meaningful contributions to society.
- Academic high-achievers.
- Recipients of the Best Mother Award.
Raising Awareness Through Resources
Furthering its mission of public education, the institute released new informational materials during the event. This included posters, training booklets, and other public education resources specifically created to enhance awareness and understanding of various communication disorders. The distribution of these materials alongside the assistive devices underscored AIISH's holistic approach to supporting the disability community.
The event successfully underscored the core IDPWD message: the critical need to build an inclusive world where individuals with disabilities can participate fully and equally in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.
