AIIMS Rajkot MBBS Student Located After 12-Hour Search Following Emotional Distress Note
In a concerning incident at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot, a final-year MBBS student was reported missing from his hostel on Wednesday morning, only to be found late in the evening after an intensive search operation. The student, identified as Ratankumar Meghwal, approximately 25 years old and hailing from Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan, left behind a detailed handwritten note spanning 16 to 17 pages, which revealed personal distress and emotional turmoil.
Early Morning Disappearance and Immediate Response
The situation unfolded when Meghwal departed from his hostel without informing anyone around 5 am. The matter came to light at approximately 8:45 am when his classmates alerted the college authorities about his absence from classes. Promptly, AIIMS officials initiated a search of his hostel room, where they discovered the extensive note, which has since become a focal point of the investigation.
Police Investigation and Recovery Efforts
According to senior police officials, the last known location of Meghwal's mobile phone was traced to Para Pipaliya village, after which the device was switched off. This clue proved crucial in the 12-hour search operation that ensued. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-2) Rakesh Desai stated that the note mentioned a one-sided affection for a female student and alleged harassment by some other students, shedding light on the possible reasons behind his disappearance.
Police sources revealed that they contacted the female student mentioned in the note, who confirmed that Meghwal had never confessed his feelings to her directly. This aspect adds a layer of complexity to the case, as it suggests unexpressed emotions may have contributed to his distress.
Previous Incidents and Current Status
Investigating officer Viral Ravaliya of Gandhigram police station noted that this was not the first time Meghwal had disappeared from the hostel. In the past, he was found at a Vipassana centre near Rajkot, indicating a pattern of seeking solitude during times of emotional difficulty. After being located in Para Pipaliya village, Meghwal was brought to the Gandhigram police station, where his statement was recorded. His family members from his native place were expected to reach Rajkot late at night to provide support and assistance.
Political Allegations and Institutional Response
Meanwhile, the Congress party alleged negligence on the part of the hostel administration in handling the student's disappearance. However, AIIMS authorities have firmly denied these charges, emphasizing that appropriate procedures were followed as soon as the matter was brought to their attention. They reiterated their commitment to student welfare and safety, highlighting the swift action taken in collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
This incident underscores the importance of mental health awareness and support systems within educational institutions, particularly in high-pressure environments like medical colleges. As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on providing Meghwal with the necessary care and counseling to address the underlying issues highlighted in his note.
