Yamunanagar's Upgraded Trauma Centre Set to Transform Emergency Medical Care

Patients in Yamunanagar district are poised to benefit from significantly enhanced emergency medical services as the renovation of the trauma centre at Mukand Lal District Civil Hospital nears completion. After months of extensive refurbishment, the upgraded facility is scheduled for formal handover to hospital authorities in April 2026, marking a major milestone in local healthcare infrastructure.

Renovation Journey and Project Details

The renovation project, initiated by the Public Works Department (PWD) in August 2024, focused on modernizing the aging 15-year-old building to improve comfort and safety for both patients and medical staff. Initially, the work experienced delays due to administrative challenges, but most tasks have now been successfully completed. According to PWD officials, the building will be handed over to the hospital administration next month, following which final preparations will be made to shift trauma services back to the renovated premises.

Key Upgrades and Infrastructure Improvements

The refurbishment included several critical enhancements to the facility's infrastructure:

  • Structural modifications: The ground floor was raised to improve accessibility and functionality.
  • Interior upgrades: New tiles were installed throughout, old doors were replaced, and walls were repaired and repainted.
  • Hygiene improvements: Washrooms were completely renovated to enhance cleanliness and convenience.
  • Aesthetic and functional additions: False ceilings were installed in multiple areas to create a more modern and efficient environment.

Dr. Jitender Singh, Civil Surgeon of Yamunanagar district, emphasized that these changes were designed with the well-being of patients and healthcare workers in mind, stating, "After completion of renovation work, the building will offer a modern and efficient environment for emergency medical care."

Impact on Healthcare Services and Community Response

Since June 2024, trauma services have been operating from a temporary location—a small hall in Block-A of the hospital—due to the renovation. This interim arrangement posed significant challenges, including limited space, restricted resources, and difficulties in managing patient flow during peak hours or major accidents. Doctors, nurses, patients, and their families all faced inconveniences under these cramped conditions.

Once services are relocated to the renovated building, these issues are expected to be substantially alleviated. The new infrastructure will facilitate better patient management, higher hygiene standards, and smoother emergency operations. Residents like Anil Kumar have welcomed the development, expressing hope that the upgraded trauma centre will elevate the quality of emergency healthcare in the district.

Dr. Jitender Singh noted that while some minor renovation tasks remain, the trauma services are anticipated to commence in the renovated building by the end of April 2026. This transition is set to provide much-needed relief to both medical personnel and the community, ensuring Yamunanagar is better equipped to handle emergency medical situations with improved efficiency and care.
