UP Medical University Marks Foundation Day with Major Expansion Announcements
The Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences (UPUMS) in Saifai celebrated its Foundation Day 2026 on Wednesday with significant announcements aimed at enhancing medical education and healthcare services in the state. The event was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who served as the chief guest and unveiled plans for substantial institutional growth.
Key Announcements by Deputy Chief Minister
In his address, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak made several pivotal announcements. He confirmed an increase in the number of seats across various courses offered by the university, including MBBS, postgraduate programs, and other medical disciplines. This expansion is designed to address the growing demand for qualified medical professionals in Uttar Pradesh.
Pathak expressed appreciation for the university's ongoing efforts to strengthen medical education, improve rural health services, and enhance trauma management capabilities. He assured full government support for the overall development of UPUMS Saifai, emphasizing its critical role in the state's healthcare infrastructure.
New State-of-the-Art Trauma Center
A highlight of the announcements was the establishment of a modern 250-bed trauma center near the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. Pathak detailed that this facility will be fully operated under UPUMS Saifai to provide rapid and high-quality emergency medical services. He personally visited the trauma center during the event, inspecting the health facilities and underscoring the government's commitment to advanced medical care.
"This trauma center will be a game-changer for emergency response in the region, ensuring timely and effective treatment for accident victims and critical cases," Pathak stated during his inspection.
Event Proceedings and Distinguished Guests
The Foundation Day program was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, who delivered a comprehensive address outlining the university's achievements. He highlighted academic and research activities, the expansion of modern medical facilities, and initiatives to bolster rural health services.
Distinguished guests in attendance included Additional Chief Secretary of the Medical Education Department Amit Kumar Ghosh, Director of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow Dr CM Singh, and MLA of Etawah Sadar Sarita Bhadauria. Their presence underscored the collaborative efforts between government bodies and medical institutions.
Honors and New Initiatives
As part of the celebrations, professors, doctors, and staff members from various departments were honored for their contributions to the university's success. Dr CM Singh was also recognized for his exemplary work in the medical field.
Several new initiatives were launched during the event:
- A Jan Aushadhi Kendra was inaugurated on the campus, aimed at providing affordable medicines to the public.
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bank of India and UPUMS Saifai to foster financial collaboration and support.
- The university's souvenir and newsletter were released, showcasing its progress and future plans.
