DSMNRU Forges Strategic Alliance with UN-Linked InstaLimb to Revolutionize 3D Prosthetic Limb Production
In a significant advancement for rehabilitation technology, Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) in Lucknow is set to enhance its 3D prosthetic limb development capabilities through a groundbreaking partnership with InstaLimb, a Japan-based company with major operations in India. This collaboration, formally connected to the United Nations via a strategic partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), will bring state-of-the-art machinery and technology valued at Rs 1.68 crore to the university's facilities.
Technological Leap for Affordable and Customized Prosthetics
InstaLimb is renowned globally for its commitment to providing affordable and high-quality 3D-printed prosthetic limbs, featuring customized sockets that significantly enhance user comfort. The company's vice president, Takayuki Tanaka, recently traveled from Japan to meet with DSMNRU Vice-Chancellor Sanjay Singh on Saturday, solidifying this international endeavor. While DSMNRU has been actively involved in 3D printing prosthetic limbs, the infusion of InstaLimb's advanced technology promises to elevate the comfort and functionality of these devices to new heights.
"It is a moment of pride for our university that an international organisation like UNIDO is collaborating with us for this endeavor," stated Vice-Chancellor Sanjay Singh. "Through 3D printing technology, we will be able to provide higher-quality artificial limbs, thereby benefiting a wider section of society."
Establishment of a Modern 3D Printing Laboratory
As part of this partnership, a modern 3D printing lab will be established within the university's Artificial Limbs and Rehabilitation Centre. This facility will leverage InstaLimb's expertise to:
- Integrate cutting-edge machinery for precise and efficient limb production.
- Develop customized prosthetic sockets that offer superior fit and comfort for users.
- Expand access to high-quality rehabilitation solutions for diverse communities across India.
The collaboration underscores a shared vision between DSMNRU and InstaLimb to harness innovative technology for social good, aligning with UNIDO's goals of promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development. This initiative is expected to set a new benchmark in prosthetic limb manufacturing, combining affordability with advanced customization to improve the lives of individuals in need of rehabilitation support.
