Telangana Medical Fraternity Raises Alarm Over MHSRB Recruitment Process

In Hyderabad, the medical community in Telangana has voiced significant concerns regarding the recruitment procedures implemented by the Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board (MHSRB). Doctors are alleging that poor planning is evident in the filling of specialist and teaching positions, which could exacerbate existing shortages in the state's healthcare and education sectors.

Recruitment Sequence Sparks Controversy

Medical experts have pointed out a critical issue with the timing of recruitment notifications. The notification for assistant professor posts under the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) was issued on June 28, 2025, which preceded the notification for Civil Assistant Surgeon (Specialist) (CASS) posts under the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP), released on August 22, 2025. However, the government is now proceeding with the TVVP recruitment first, a move that has been termed adverse by the medical fraternity.

Doctors argue that most aspirants prefer assistant professor positions in government medical colleges due to better career prospects and stability. If the TVVP recruitment for specialist posts is completed earlier, candidates may initially accept these roles but later resign if they secure DME positions. This scenario could lead to vacant specialist posts in TVVP hospitals, which already suffer from a severe shortage of doctors. Additionally, with government medical colleges grappling with a significant deficit in teaching faculty, such resignations could further impair medical education and training programs.

Urgent Call for Strategic Recruitment Order

Members of the medical fraternity have urgently appealed to the government to prioritize the completion of assistant professor recruitment under DME before advancing with TVVP specialist recruitment. They emphasize that this strategic approach would prevent unnecessary resignations, ensure optimal utilization of manpower, and simultaneously strengthen both healthcare services and medical education across Telangana. By aligning recruitment with candidate preferences, the state can mitigate the risk of recurring vacancies and enhance the overall efficiency of its medical infrastructure.

Official Response and Timeline

A senior official from the DME office provided clarity on the matter, stating, "The decision taken by MHSRB is to complete assistant professor recruitment first and then complete the CASS recruitment. Assistant professor certificate verification will be taken up in the last week of March, and selections will be completed by the 1st week of April. Thereafter, the CASS selection list will be released." This statement aims to address concerns by outlining a planned timeline, though medical professionals remain vigilant about its implementation to avoid disruptions in staffing and educational quality.
