Prayagraj's SRN Hospital to Boost Healthcare with Major Ward Expansion
The Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj is set for a significant infrastructure upgrade, with the state government approving a budget of Rs 5.5 crore for expansion works in the gynaecology and psychiatry departments. This move is aimed at easing pressure on existing facilities and enhancing patient care across both critical healthcare sectors.
Addressing Critical Shortages in Psychiatry Care
Currently, psychiatric patients at SRN Hospital face considerable challenges, as they are admitted to a night shelter due to the absence of a dedicated ward. This arrangement has caused significant inconvenience for both patients and their attendants, highlighting an urgent need for improved facilities.
To resolve this issue, a new 30-bed ward will be constructed above the existing psychiatry department at a cost of nearly Rs 3 crore. Officials have emphasized that this new facility will provide better treatment conditions and a more structured environment for mental health patients, fostering recovery and comfort.
Enhancing Gynaecology Services with New Infrastructure
Similarly, the gynaecology department will benefit from a 20-bed ward, to be built at an approximate cost of Rs 2.5 crore. This expansion is expected to bolster maternal and women's health services, ensuring more efficient and accessible care for patients in need.
Related Developments and Execution Details
In a related development, Motilal Nehru Medical College is also setting up a correspondence counter for postgraduate and undergraduate students at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has been designated as the executing agency for all these projects, ensuring coordinated implementation.
Dr Man Singh of Motilal Nehru Medical College confirmed that the new wards with 30 beds in psychiatry and 20 beds in gynaecology are actively being developed, alongside the ongoing construction of the correspondence counter for students. He noted that the executing agency has been formally appointed to oversee all projects.
Expected Impact on Hospital Infrastructure
Dr Santosh Kumar Singh, media in-charge of SRN Hospital, highlighted that this expansion will significantly strengthen the hospital's infrastructure and improve patient management in both departments. The upgrades are poised to transform healthcare delivery, making it more responsive to the needs of the community.
This initiative reflects a broader commitment to advancing medical facilities in Uttar Pradesh, with a focus on specialized care areas that have historically faced resource constraints. The increased bed capacity is anticipated to reduce wait times, enhance treatment outcomes, and provide a more dignified experience for patients and their families.
