Shalby Hospitals Enhances Cancer Treatment in Ahmedabad with New Technology
In a significant development for healthcare in Ahmedabad, Shalby Hospitals inaugurated a state-of-the-art high-precision cancer treatment machine on Sunday. The new equipment, part of the Shalby Cancer Research Institute (SCRI), is designed to deliver targeted radiation therapy while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues, thereby improving patient outcomes.
Expansion of Cancer Care Facilities
The inauguration was led by Praful Pansheriya, Minister of State for Health, marking a key step in the hospital's efforts to bolster its oncology services. Dr. Vikram Shah, Chairman and Managing Director of Shalby Hospitals, announced that the facility has converted 65 beds specifically for specialized cancer treatment, with plans to increase this number based on future needs. This expansion reflects a growing commitment to addressing the complex and long-term requirements of cancer patients in the region.
Rising Demand and Regional Impact
City-based healthcare experts note that over the past decade, nearly all major hospitals in Ahmedabad have initiated or upgraded their advanced cancer treatment facilities. For instance, the Gujarat Cancer Research Institute (GCRI) has expanded its capacity to over 650 beds. According to a senior official from the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (AHNA), there has been no drastic rise in cancer prevalence, but the condition necessitates prolonged and targeted care. The city now boasts over 1,000 beds dedicated to cancer treatment, serving not only local residents but also patients from neighboring states. This trend underscores Ahmedabad's evolving role as a hub for specialized medical services in western India.
The move by Shalby Hospitals aligns with broader efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that patients have access to cutting-edge treatments without the need to travel long distances.
