The Regional Eye Institute in Ranchi officially opened its doors for outpatient services on Monday. This new facility operates from the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences campus. Patients flocked to the institute on its inaugural day.
Strong Patient Response on Day One
Medical staff examined a total of 130 individuals at the eye outpatient department. The ENT OPD saw another 119 patients seeking care. This combined figure represents a significant initial turnout for the newly launched services.
A Comprehensive Eyecare Hub
Dr. Raj Kumar, the director of RIMS, explained the institute's broad scope. He stated the center functions as a complete facility for advanced eye treatments. Patients can now access multiple specialized services under a single roof.
Available treatments include cataract surgery and cornea transplantation. The institute also handles complex retinal diseases and glaucoma management. Furthermore, it provides care for serious paediatric eye disorders.
Dr. Kumar emphasized the institute's impact on local healthcare capacity. He believes it will greatly improve RIMS's ability to manage complicated eye cases. This development reduces the need for patients to seek treatment elsewhere.
Staffing and Patient Experiences
The government sanctioned 103 positions to support the institute's operations. This allocation covers specialist doctors, nursing personnel, and technical staff members.
Local residents have welcomed the new facility. Asima Tirkey, who lives in Madhukam, shared her positive experience. She had waited months for proper eye treatment before the institute opened.
"This institute makes treatment much easier and more affordable for patients like me," Tirkey said. She recalled the previous challenges patients faced. "Earlier, we had to run from one department to another. Sometimes we even needed to travel outside the state for care."
The launch marks a major step in expanding specialized medical services in the region. It aims to provide accessible and integrated care for eye and ENT conditions.
