Punjab Chief Minister Inaugurates Major Healthcare Facility in Dhuri
In a significant development for healthcare infrastructure in the Sangrur district, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann officially inaugurated a comprehensive hospital complex in Dhuri on Tuesday. The newly established facility comprises a 50-bed sub-divisional hospital integrated with a dedicated 30-bed maternal and child health (MCH) unit, marking a substantial upgrade to local medical services.
Modern Infrastructure and Expanded Capacity
Addressing a public gathering during the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Mann emphasized that this project underscores the state government's unwavering commitment to constructing a robust, accessible, and patient-focused healthcare system. He detailed that the hospital complex, constructed at a cost of Rs 21.65 crore, represents a major evolution from its original establishment in 1978 as a 30-bed facility, later expanded to 50 beds, and now transformed into an 80-bed modern healthcare hub.
The upgraded infrastructure is designed to significantly enhance secondary-level healthcare delivery. It features 13 outpatient department (OPD) rooms, a fully equipped emergency block, two registration counters, and seven operation theatres. Advanced diagnostic capabilities include ECG, ultrasound, and X-ray rooms, supported by three laboratories to ensure prompt and accurate medical testing.
Comprehensive Patient Care and Specialized Services
The facility is meticulously planned to improve both patient comfort and operational efficiency. It houses 12 private rooms, six general wards, a comprehensive drug store, a Senior Medical Officer's office, 11 nurse stations, and two lifts. This design will enable medical staff to manage emergency cases, accident victims, and critically ill patients with greater effectiveness and speed.
Chief Minister Mann announced that the hospital will provide advanced medical procedures, including surgical interventions and knee replacement services. Specialist doctors, particularly in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) care, will be available. The dedicated maternal and child health hospital will offer both normal and cesarean delivery services under the supervision of qualified gynecologists, ensuring specialized care for mothers and infants.
Widespread Community Impact and Government Initiatives
The new healthcare complex is expected to serve not only Dhuri residents but also people from approximately 70 surrounding villages, bringing modern medical care closer to thousands of households. This initiative is part of a broader government effort to strengthen healthcare accessibility across Punjab.
Mann highlighted recent recruitment drives that have bolstered the state's medical workforce. The government has recruited over 1,500 doctors for hospitals, including 600 specialists and 900 general practitioners, along with more than 800 doctors for Aam Aadmi Clinics (AACs). These efforts aim to significantly improve the availability of skilled healthcare professionals across all government health institutions, ensuring that enhanced infrastructure is matched by qualified personnel.
The inauguration of the Dhuri hospital complex is a concrete step towards fulfilling the government's vision of a strengthened, patient-centric healthcare system, directly benefiting rural and semi-urban populations in the Sangrur region.
