In a significant move to enhance healthcare accessibility, the Arogya Bhavan dispensary on both campuses of Lucknow University will now operate from 7am to 9pm daily, extending its services to 14 hours. This decision comes after an inspection by Vice Chancellor Prof JP Saini revealed critical lapses in the existing system.
Extended Hours Address Healthcare Gaps
Previously, the dispensaries functioned only between 10am and 5pm, limiting access for students, teachers, and university employees. The new extended schedule aims to provide comprehensive medical support throughout the day, ensuring that healthcare needs are met promptly.
Inspection Uncovers Staff Absence
Prof Saini's visit to the facility exposed the absence of doctors and staff during operational hours, prompting immediate action. Currently, two doctors and two staff members are posted at the dispensary, but their availability had been inconsistent.
Strict Measures Implemented
In response to the findings, Prof Saini issued show-cause notices to the absent doctors and staff, demanding explanations for their negligence. He emphasized that such lapses in providing healthcare facilities will not be tolerated, stating, "Negligence in providing healthcare facilities will not be tolerated. The well-being of students, teachers, and employees is a top priority."
Operational Reforms for Uninterrupted Services
To ensure seamless medical services, Prof Saini directed several key reforms:
- The dispensary will remain open on holidays, guaranteeing uninterrupted access to healthcare.
- Duty rosters have been revised so that two doctors work seven-hour shifts each, covering the extended hours effectively.
- Annual procurement of medicines will be completed through the GeM portal to prevent shortages.
Focus on Cleanliness and Accountability
Expressing concern over unclean surroundings outside the dispensary, Prof Saini has mandated regular maintenance and hygiene checks. These steps are part of a broader effort to uphold high standards in university healthcare services.
This overhaul reflects Lucknow University's commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of its community, setting a precedent for other institutions to follow.
