New Delhi: Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first 2,000-bedded government hospital in India to receive the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification from the Union health ministry, officials confirmed on Monday.
This certification acknowledges the Delhi government-run tertiary care hospital's outstanding performance across critical healthcare quality indicators, including patient safety, infection control, clinical services, and hospital administration.
Praising the hospital staff, Medical Director Dr. B.L. Chaudhary described the achievement as a result of "collective dedication, teamwork, and commitment" demonstrated by doctors, nurses, faculty members, sanitation workers, security personnel, PWD staff, and administrative employees.
Exceptional Scores in NQAS Assessment
According to hospital authorities, LNJP Hospital secured exceptionally high scores in the NQAS assessment. The hospital achieved 99.4% in service provision, 96.1% in patient rights, 97.6% in clinical services, 97% in infection control, and 95.6% in quality management. Additionally, the hospital scored 99.5% in patient privacy and dignity, while recording a patient satisfaction score of 87.3%.
Specialised Facility Scores
Among specialised facilities, the pharmacy department scored 95.8%, the ICU 96.7%, and the haemodialysis centre 97.9%. Officials attributed these high scores to years of systemic reforms and infrastructure strengthening undertaken at the hospital.
Systemic Reforms and Infrastructure Strengthening
Measures implemented include strict infection-control practices, scientific sanitisation systems, biomedical waste management protocols, and mandatory infection-prevention training for healthcare workers. The hospital also introduced digital monitoring and patient feedback systems, transparent grievance redressal mechanisms, improved drug inventory management, uninterrupted electricity and water supply systems, patient-centric administrative reforms, and standardised treatment protocols.
Financial Benefits Under Ayushman Bharat
Hospital authorities noted that the NQAS accreditation will also bring financial benefits. Under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), NQAS-certified hospitals are eligible for an additional 15% incentive over standard package rates. LNJP Hospital is expected to receive over Rs 2 crore annually as an additional financial incentive.
Officials stated that this certification reinforces public trust in government healthcare institutions and demonstrates that high-quality, patient-centric healthcare delivery is achievable within India’s public health system.
