Lieutenant Governor Advocates for Simple Lifestyle Changes and Technological Integration in Delhi
In New Delhi, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu made a compelling appeal to citizens on Saturday, urging them to adopt "one habit change" to make healthier living more achievable. Speaking at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) on the occasion of World Liver Day, he emphasized that this year's theme, "Solid Habits, Strong Liver," reinforces the critical importance of consistent daily choices in improving long-term liver health.
Focus on Early Detection and Public Awareness
Highlighting the vital role of early detection, Sandhu underlined ILBS's contributions in strengthening specialized care, research, and public awareness regarding liver health. He referenced initiatives such as 'dawat-e-jigar,' which promotes dietary awareness, and stressed that sustained awareness combined with small behavioral changes can significantly contribute to better public health outcomes.
Harit Manthan Hackathon: Bridging Ideas and Implementation
Later, addressing the inaugural session of the Harit Manthan National Hackathon 2026, organized by the Delhi Development Authority in collaboration with the Udhmodya Foundation, the Lieutenant Governor noted that this initiative reflects a concerted effort to connect innovative ideas with practical implementation in urban ecology. He pointed out that the hackathon brings together researchers, scholars, young innovators, and stakeholders to develop practical, innovation-driven solutions to real-world challenges.
Technology's Role in Urban Environmental Management
Emphasizing the transformative role of technology in urban environmental management, Sandhu stated that tools like data analytics, remote sensing, and digital monitoring systems can enhance the tracking and management of ecological assets. In a city like Delhi, which has a significant ecological footprint, managing over 16,000 acres of parks, biodiversity zones, and urban forests presents both opportunities and challenges, he noted.
The Lieutenant Governor stressed that effective management at such a scale requires the seamless integration of technology, policy innovation, and community participation. He added that the real challenge lies not merely in innovation itself, but in its integration into governance frameworks, highlighting the urgent need to bridge the gap between available technologies and their deployment at scale.
Urban Sustainability: Beyond Technical Concerns
Underlining that urban sustainability is not only a technical concern but also involves behavioral and institutional dimensions, Sandhu urged all stakeholders to continue contributing towards strengthening Delhi's ecological landscape. He said initiatives like Harit Manthan are crucial in shaping future-ready policies by enabling ideas to be tested, refined, and translated into practical, scalable solutions for sustainable urban development.
This comprehensive approach aims to foster a healthier populace and a more resilient urban environment through combined efforts in health awareness and technological advancement.
