KGMU Lucknow to Build Rs 400 Crore Women Apex Centre and New Dental Block
KGMU Lucknow's Rs 400 Cr Healthcare Upgrade for Women & Dental Care

KGMU Lucknow Announces Major Healthcare Infrastructure Upgrade Worth Rs 400 Crore

In a significant development for healthcare services in Uttar Pradesh, King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow is set to undergo a major infrastructure transformation. The university will soon construct a dedicated women apex centre and a new multi-storey dental block, with an estimated total cost of approximately Rs 400 crore. This ambitious initiative aims to revolutionize emergency medical care for critically ill pregnant women and newborn babies within the campus premises.

Advanced Women Apex Centre to Reduce Emergency Referrals

The proposed women apex centre will be strategically located near Queen Mary's Hospital at KGMU. This specialized facility is designed to provide advanced life-saving treatments for pregnant women and infants, thereby minimizing the need for external referrals and eliminating dangerous delays during medical emergencies. Currently, many critically ill pregnant patients require transfer to the trauma centre for essential ventilator support, creating logistical challenges and potential risks during transit.

Vice Chancellor Prof Sonia Nityanand emphasized that once operational, the new centre will offer comprehensive advanced facilities right at Queen Mary's Hospital itself. This strategic placement will ensure faster access to critical care, significantly improving patient safety and treatment outcomes for mothers and newborns facing life-threatening conditions.

Modern Dental Block to Replace Unsafe Structure

Simultaneously, KGMU will demolish its old dental building, which was declared structurally unsafe following thorough inspections conducted by experts from the Indian Institute of Technology. All dental departments have already been relocated to the new dental complex as a precautionary measure. The damaged structure will now make way for a modern, multi-storey dental block that will house four specialized dental departments.

This replacement project addresses critical safety concerns while simultaneously expanding and modernizing dental care facilities available to patients. The new building will incorporate contemporary medical infrastructure and advanced equipment to enhance treatment capabilities across various dental specialties.

Proposals Awaiting Government Approval

Both infrastructure projects have been formally proposed to the state government, with expectations of receiving approval in the near future. The comprehensive proposals outline detailed plans for construction timelines, resource allocation, and operational frameworks for both facilities. Prof Nityanand expressed confidence that these developments will substantially elevate KGMU's healthcare infrastructure standards.

The Vice Chancellor highlighted that these initiatives represent a strategic investment in modernizing medical facilities that will benefit countless patients across Uttar Pradesh. By integrating advanced treatment capabilities within the campus, KGMU aims to establish itself as a premier healthcare institution capable of handling complex medical emergencies without depending on external facilities.

This Rs 400 crore infrastructure upgrade underscores KGMU's commitment to enhancing maternal and child healthcare services while simultaneously strengthening specialized dental treatment offerings. The projects promise to transform emergency medical response systems and create a more comprehensive healthcare ecosystem within the university campus.
