Jharkhand Government Announces Major Healthcare Recruitment Drive

In a significant move to bolster healthcare infrastructure, the Jharkhand state government has unveiled plans to recruit more than 1,200 doctors across various specializations. Health Minister Irfan Ansari made this announcement on Tuesday during a ceremony marking World TB Day, where appointment letters were distributed to 76 newly appointed medical officers.

Addressing Critical Shortages in Government Hospitals

The recruitment initiative aims to tackle the persistent shortage of specialist doctors in state-run hospitals. Minister Ansari emphasized that this step is crucial for ensuring quality treatment and accessible healthcare services for all patients in Jharkhand. The government has already forwarded a detailed requisition to the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) to begin the hiring process.

The breakdown of the 1,243 doctor positions includes:

  • 97 assistant professors (super specialists)
  • 660 specialist doctors

"The commission is soon going to publish an advertisement for the posts, and the recruitment process is also likely to be completed this year itself," stated Ansari, highlighting the urgency of the matter.

Dual Recruitment Strategy for Faster Results

To expedite the hiring and address manpower gaps more efficiently, the health department is adopting a multi-pronged approach. In addition to the JPSC-led recruitment, plans are underway to hire doctors through the National Health Mission (NHM). This dual strategy is expected to streamline the process and ensure that vacancies are filled promptly across the state's healthcare facilities.

Upgrading Medical Infrastructure with Advanced Equipment

Beyond staffing, the government is taking concrete steps to modernize hospital infrastructure. Minister Ansari revealed that the department has initiated the installation of CT scan and MRI machines in all medical colleges and district sadar hospitals. This upgrade is designed to eliminate the need for patients to travel to other states for advanced diagnostic services, thereby improving convenience and reducing healthcare costs for residents.

Ambitious Target to Eradicate Tuberculosis by 2030

Aligning with national health goals, Jharkhand has set a target to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) by 2030. To achieve this, the state plans to organize specialized health camps across various regions, with a particular focus on tribal-dominated areas where healthcare access has historically been limited.

Assistant Chief Secretary of the Health Department, Ajoy Kumar Singh, provided encouraging statistics on TB screening efforts. "Over 9.5 lakh people were screened for detection of TB cases in 2025, which is double the number of tests done in 2024," he reported. For the current year, the department has set an even higher target of conducting 12 lakh tests statewide to better identify TB patients and ensure they receive timely treatment.

This comprehensive healthcare push underscores the state government's commitment to transforming medical services and public health outcomes in Jharkhand, promising a brighter future for patients and healthcare professionals alike.
