ITBP Personnel Create Emergency Delivery Room in Remote Chhattisgarh Camp

In a remarkable display of quick thinking and compassion, personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police transformed their paramilitary camp into an emergency labour room on Tuesday. This extraordinary event unfolded in one of the most isolated forest pockets of Abujhmarh, located within Chhattisgarh's insurgency-affected Narayanpur district.

Ambulance Fails to Reach Hospital

The tribal woman from Padmeta village went into labour while being transported in a community health centre ambulance. Her destination was the Orchha block, situated approximately 42 kilometers from her remote village. Medical staff quickly realized the ambulance would not complete the journey in time due to the emergency situation and the region's notoriously difficult terrain.

Faced with this critical timing issue, the CHC medical team immediately contacted the nearby ITBP camp at Dodimerka. They urgently requested assistance for the impending delivery.

Rapid Transformation of Camp Facilities

ITBP officers responded without hesitation upon receiving the distress call. They mobilized available medical staff and jawans to prepare their camp for an emergency childbirth procedure. The personnel worked swiftly to create a safe makeshift delivery space.

Their preparations included:

  • Setting up a separate tent specifically for the delivery
  • Arranging a proper bed for the expectant mother
  • Installing adequate lighting for the medical procedure
  • Preparing hot water and other basic delivery necessities

Successful Delivery Brings Celebration

When the ambulance finally reached Dodimerka with the labouring woman, ITBP personnel collaborated seamlessly with CHC medical and nursing staff. Together, they conducted the delivery right at the camp itself. The woman delivered her baby safely, with both mother and newborn reported to be in stable condition following the procedure.

The successful outcome brought visible relief and joy throughout the camp. Personnel and health staff celebrated the positive result, marking a rare moment of triumph in this challenging region.

Security Forces as Healthcare Partners

This incident highlights the evolving role of security forces stationed in remote, conflict-affected areas like Abujhmarh. Over the past two years, these forces have increasingly served as crucial first responders and partners in public welfare initiatives. They provide essential emergency healthcare support to isolated tribal communities who often lack access to proper medical facilities.

The Abujhmarh region remains better known for its difficult terrain and historical insurgency challenges than for healthcare accessibility. Yet this emergency delivery demonstrates how security personnel are filling critical gaps when traditional medical services cannot reach those in need.
