Haryana Health Infrastructure Sees Rapid Expansion

Haryana's Healthcare Sector Witnesses Transformative Growth

Chandigarh: The Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education & Research Department of Haryana has reported significant progress in expanding the state's healthcare infrastructure. Dr. Sumita Misra, Additional Chief Secretary of the department, chaired a comprehensive review meeting where she highlighted the rapid expansion underway across Haryana's medical landscape.

Exceptional Financial Performance in Capital Expenditure

The financial review for the fiscal year 2025-26 revealed particularly encouraging trends in capital expenditure management. Against an allocated budget of Rs 951 crore, the department has already utilised Rs 867 crore, achieving an impressive utilisation rate exceeding 91%. This outstanding performance demonstrates efficient project execution, prudent financial management practices, and robust inter-departmental coordination mechanisms that have facilitated smooth implementation of healthcare initiatives.

On the revenue expenditure front, approximately Rs 1,173 crore has been deployed strategically to ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential health services throughout the state. This balanced financial approach has enabled both infrastructure development and ongoing service provision to proceed simultaneously without compromise.

Medical Education Infrastructure Expansion

Haryana's medical education sector is undergoing a transformative phase with substantial infrastructure development. Dr. Misra reviewed the progress of several flagship projects during the meeting, including:

  • The University of Health Sciences at Kutail, Karnal
  • Six new government medical colleges at Jind, Kaithal, Yamunanagar, Sirsa, Sonipat (Khanpur Kalan), and Karnal

With substantial investments already committed to these projects, departmental officers have been directed to accelerate construction timelines to ensure early operationalisation. These institutions will significantly augment the availability of trained medical professionals while bringing quality medical education closer to residents across all regions of Haryana.

Enhanced Clinical Infrastructure and Diagnostic Capabilities

The meeting also focused on strengthening clinical infrastructure under the state's flagship free treatment initiatives. To further expand access to specialized care, five new Cath Labs are proposed for government medical colleges and district hospitals. Diagnostic capacity is being scaled up rapidly across the state with several key developments:

  1. The tendering process for ten additional MRI units has been completed
  2. MRI services will soon be extended to all twenty-three district hospitals
  3. Seventeen CT scan facilities are currently operational
  4. Tenders have been finalised for four more CT scanners

These measures will ensure equitable access to advanced diagnostic services across Haryana, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for essential medical tests.

Expansion of Specialized Treatment Services

Haryana has achieved a significant milestone in providing free dialysis services to all residents across twenty-two districts, substantially reducing the financial burden on patients suffering from chronic kidney disease. Plans are underway to extend these dialysis services to select sub-divisional hospitals as well, further decentralizing access to this critical treatment.

For strengthening tertiary care capabilities, the Atal Cancer Care Centre (ACCC) at Ambala Cantt has become operational to provide advanced cancer treatment services. Additionally, tenders have been floated for setting up PET scan and SPECT facilities, which will enhance diagnostic capabilities for complex medical conditions.

These comprehensive initiatives collectively reinforce Haryana's commitment to strengthening critical and tertiary healthcare services, creating a more robust and accessible healthcare ecosystem for all residents of the state.
