The Tata group had assured us that they would pay for the damage, and they have already deposited the funds they had promised," Topno stated during a media briefing in Gandhinagar.
The announcement was made alongside Health Minister Praful Pansheriya during discussions about budgetary allocations for the department for the fiscal year 2026-27.

P M Chaudhary, Chief Engineer of the Health Department, provided specific details about the reconstruction plan:

- Construction work is expected to commence within the next few months.
- The current complex, which accommodated approximately 100 students, will be demolished.
- The new hostel will have a significantly increased capacity of 292 students.
Background of the Damage
The hostel complex suffered extensive destruction during the Air India flight AI 171 crash on June 12, 2025. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, bound for London with over 240 passengers and crew members aboard, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The aircraft struck both the hostel and canteen complex of the medical college, resulting in:
- Parts of the building being hit by debris from the crash.
- A major portion of the complex being engulfed in fire.
- The buildings being rendered completely unusable.
The complex was subsequently vacated to facilitate investigation by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau. The tragic incident claimed 260 lives, including four MBBS students and a doctor's wife from the medical college community.
This reconstruction project represents a significant step toward recovery and restoration for the educational institution affected by one of India's most devastating aviation disasters.
