Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar raised the issue during the zero-hour mention. He highlighted the growing fear among local residents due to the consistent postponement of the hospital's commissioning. "The government needs to look into this issue very seriously," Arolkar stated. He informed the house that people have resorted to a chain hunger strike to press their demands.
Protests Enter Third Day
The Tuem Hospital Kruti Samiti continued their chain hunger strike for a third consecutive day on Tuesday. Protesters are demanding a written assurance from the state government regarding the operation of the new 100-bed facility. Their patience is wearing thin.
Activists have issued a clear warning. If their demands remain unmet, they plan to organize a large-scale 'mashal miravnuk' or torchlight procession. This event is scheduled for January 15 at 5:30 PM. The procession will start from ITI Tuem and proceed to the hospital site.
Minister's Assurance on Shortcomings
In his response, Minister Rane acknowledged the existing shortcomings at the Tuem hospital. He assured the assembly that his department will resolve all pending issues to ensure a smooth start. The minister emphasized his commitment to making the facility operational by the end of January.
