The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to several food business operators (FBOs) for contravening provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The violations pertain to misleading brand names, trade names, and product claims, as well as labeling infractions and other consumer grievances.
FSSAI directed the concerned FBOs to take corrective measures promptly. The regulatory body shared the information via its official social media handle, emphasizing the need for compliance with the Act's stipulations.
In a series of posts dated June 14 and June 19, 2026, FSSAI highlighted that the notices were issued following consumer complaints and routine inspections. The authority reiterated its commitment to ensuring food safety and protecting consumer interests by cracking down on deceptive practices.
Food businesses found violating the norms are required to rectify their brand names, trade descriptions, and product claims to align with legal standards. Failure to comply may lead to further enforcement actions, including penalties or suspension of licenses.
This move underscores FSSAI's ongoing vigilance in monitoring the food industry and its zero-tolerance policy towards misleading marketing tactics that could harm consumer trust and public health.
