Chhattisgarh CM Unveils Healthcare Expansion Plans at National Conference
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai outlined Chhattisgarh's ambitious healthcare roadmap during his address at the All India Health Sciences Vice Chancellors Meet-2026 held in Nava Raipur on Friday. Speaking at Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Memorial Health Sciences and Ayush University, the CM emphasized that the conference deliberations would significantly influence future healthcare policy formulation and enhance public health service delivery across the state.
Infrastructure Development and Medical Education Expansion
The Chief Minister highlighted substantial progress in health sector infrastructure over the past two years, with ongoing construction of five new medical colleges, fourteen nursing colleges, and one homeopathy college. He described the conference as a milestone event that brought together educationists, vice-chancellors, and students to shape the future of healthcare education and delivery.
"The state government has achieved marked progress in transforming healthcare infrastructure, and this conference will help us refine our approach to public health services," Sai stated during his keynote address.
Ayushman Bharat Impact and Rural Health Initiatives
CM Sai emphasized the transformative impact of the Ayushman Bharat scheme under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, noting that the program provides financial support of up to ₹5 lakh to economically disadvantaged families. He observed that this initiative has significantly reduced the financial burden on poor households, who previously faced crippling medical debts or were forced to sell assets for treatment.
Addressing growing health concerns in rural areas, particularly the rising prevalence of diabetes and cancer, the Chief Minister pointed to central government initiatives like "Arogya Mandir" that promote preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyle practices. He also mentioned the central government's decision to establish three Ayurvedic AIIMS institutions across the country to strengthen traditional medicine systems.
Medicinal Resources and Traditional Healthcare Recognition
Highlighting Chhattisgarh's unique advantages, Sai noted that 44% of the state comprises forest cover rich in medicinal plants, creating significant potential for herbal medicine development. He expressed particular pride in Padma Shri awardee Hemchand Manjhi, whose expertise in treating serious diseases has attracted international patients seeking alternative healthcare solutions.
Future Healthcare Infrastructure: Medicity Hub and Private Sector Growth
The Chief Minister announced plans for a comprehensive Medicity Hub in the capital region that will feature a 5,000-bed super-speciality hospital designed to provide world-class medical facilities. This ambitious project represents a significant leap forward in the state's healthcare infrastructure development.
Sai also reported robust private sector participation, with over a dozen private hospitals opening in Raipur during his tenure, creating a more comprehensive healthcare ecosystem for residents.
Medical Education Reforms and Technological Integration
Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal announced significant reforms in medical education, including the introduction of Hindi medium options to make medical education more accessible. He emphasized that the integration of technology and artificial intelligence would enhance the effectiveness of future health services, creating more responsive and efficient healthcare delivery systems.
Focus on Rural Healthcare Accessibility
Member of Parliament Brijmohan Agrawal stressed the importance of extending quality health services to rural and remote areas during the conference. He confirmed that valuable suggestions and recommendations from the conference would be formally submitted to the Ministry of Ayush for consideration in national healthcare planning.
