AP Government Appoints 482 Doctors to Strengthen Healthcare System
In a significant boost to the state's healthcare infrastructure, the Andhra Pradesh government has issued appointment orders to 482 doctors on a regular basis through the Directorate of Public Health (DPH). This major recruitment drive aims to address critical vacancies across the state's medical facilities.
Transparent Online Recruitment Process
Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav announced that the entire recruitment process, including counselling and posting, was conducted online to ensure complete transparency and operational efficiency. The selected candidates have been directed to join their duties within 15 days of receiving their appointment orders.
The recruitment initiative stems from a notification issued last year to fill 636 vacancies, which included positions for medical officers in primary health centres and tutors in teaching hospitals. The process attracted nearly 5,000 applications from MBBS-qualified candidates across the state.
Comprehensive Selection Procedure
After thorough scrutiny and strict adherence to reservation norms, the final selection list was officially released on March 11. As part of the innovative online process, candidates were allowed to submit their posting preferences digitally between Monday morning and Tuesday night.
Following numerous requests from applicants, the government extended the submission deadline to accommodate more candidates. Out of 611 available posts (excluding sports quota positions), 482 candidates successfully exercised their options and received their appointment orders through a completely paperless system.
District-Wise Allocation of Medical Professionals
According to Dr. Padmavathi, Director of Public Health, Kadapa district received the highest number of postings with 52 doctors allocated, followed by Anantapur with 34 doctors, Srikakulam with 31 doctors, Kakinada with 29 doctors, and Kurnool with 27 doctors.
Several other districts also received substantial allocations of medical professionals:
- Palnadu district
- NTR district
- Krishna district
- Prakasam district
Officials confirmed that the remaining 19 posts under sports and ex-servicemen categories will be filled shortly through separate selection processes.
Continuing Healthcare Workforce Expansion
This latest recruitment drive follows earlier efforts to strengthen the state's public healthcare workforce. In December 2024, the Directorate of Public Health successfully filled 392 medical officer positions under a separate notification, demonstrating the government's ongoing commitment to improving healthcare delivery across Andhra Pradesh.
The systematic approach to doctor recruitment, combining digital transparency with comprehensive district-wise allocation, represents a significant step forward in addressing healthcare staffing challenges and improving medical services for citizens throughout the state.
