Residents of Rewari and surrounding districts in Haryana have received a significant update on the much-awaited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in their region. Officials have announced that outpatient department (OPD) services at the under-construction AIIMS Rewari are expected to begin by March 2026. This development promises to bring advanced medical care closer to home for thousands.
Ministerial Inspection and Key Directives
Union Minister of State for Statistics, Programme Implementation and Planning, Rao Inderjit Singh, conducted a detailed inspection of the site at Majra village on Saturday. During his visit, he reviewed the progress of the massive healthcare project, which was inaugurated ahead of the 2024 general elections. The minister issued clear instructions to the concerned officials, directing them to ensure the commencement of OPD services by the stipulated deadline of March 2026.
He emphasized the need to complete the remaining construction work at the earliest and to put all faculty-related arrangements in place promptly. Singh also took stock of the OPD building and other campus facilities. In a gesture promoting environmental conservation, he planted saplings on the campus grounds. A critical infrastructure directive involved expediting the construction of the railway overbridge (ROB) near the campus to ensure better connectivity.
Phased Launch of Medical College and Facilities
Alongside the OPD, the academic wing of the institute is also set to become operational. Dr. D.N. Sharma, the Director of AIIMS Rewari, confirmed that medical college classes are likely to start from the next academic session, specifically in the June-July period. The intake will begin with 50 seats, with plans to increase the number to 100 seats subsequently.
Dr. Sharma added that work on emergency services and other critical medical facilities is progressing and will be completed soon. This phased approach ensures that essential services start without waiting for the entire project's completion, which is estimated to take about three years in total.
A Major Boost for Regional Healthcare
The establishment of AIIMS Rewari is poised to transform the medical landscape of southern Haryana. Bawal MLA Dr. Krishna Kumar highlighted that the institute would guarantee better and more accessible healthcare facilities for the district and nearby regions. Once fully operational, the 750-bed facility is expected to significantly reduce the patient load on existing hospitals in Gurgaon and Delhi, offering world-class treatment locally.
Built over 210 acres with an estimated cost of around Rs 1,700 crore, the institute will offer all the specialist facilities available at other AIIMS across the country. The start of OPD services alone will provide substantial healthcare relief to the people of Rewari district and adjacent areas, marking a crucial step towards equitable health infrastructure in the region.
