Ahmedabad Municipal Health Centers Experience Significant Patient Growth in 2025

The network of community and urban health centers operated by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has reported a consistent increase in patient visits, with official data revealing that 20.6 lakh patients received treatment at outpatient departments (OPDs) across 90 centers in 2025. This data, released on Wednesday, highlights the growing reliance on public healthcare infrastructure in the city.

Breakdown of Medical Cases and Historical Trends

Among the total cases managed last year, approximately 1.35 lakh patients were treated for fever, while nearly 50,000 individuals sought medical care for cold and cough-related issues. These figures underscore the common health concerns addressed by the municipal health facilities.

The statistics reflect a gradual upward trajectory in patient footfall over recent years. OPDs at urban and community health centers recorded 19.56 lakh patients in 2024 and 20.86 lakh patients in 2023. Prior to that, the numbers were 17.38 lakh in 2022 and 13.67 lakh in 2021, a period significantly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier data shows 14.49 lakh patients treated in 2020 and 16.34 lakh in 2019, indicating a recovery and growth pattern post-pandemic.

SVP Hospital's Seven-Year Performance and Infrastructure Investment

In a related development, SVP Hospital, a flagship healthcare facility constructed by the AMC with an investment of Rs 800 crore, has demonstrated substantial utilization. Over a seven-year span from 2019 to 2025, the hospital recorded 14.53 lakh OPD visits, showcasing its critical role in the city's public health ecosystem.

The steady rise in patient numbers at AMC-run centers points to several key factors:

  • Enhanced accessibility to affordable healthcare services for residents.
  • Improved infrastructure and medical facilities post-pandemic.
  • Growing awareness and trust in public health systems.
  • Effective management of common ailments like fever and respiratory issues.

This trend underscores the importance of continued investment in municipal health infrastructure to meet the evolving healthcare needs of Ahmedabad's population.
