A vibrant and energetic cycle rally took over the premises of the Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) in Varanasi this Sunday, marking a significant milestone. The event celebrated the successful completion of one year of the 'Sunday on Cycle' campaign, aligning with the nationwide Fit India movement's vision for a healthier society.
Flag-Off and Rally Route
The morning air at the BLW Golf Course gate buzzed with excitement as participants gathered for the grand event. The programme was officially flagged off by Sushil Kumar Srivastava, the Principal Chief Electrical Engineer and President of the BLW Sports Association. From the starting point, a colourful procession of cyclists embarked on a designated route that showcased the BLW campus.
The rally wound its way past key landmarks including the Railway Protection Force Check Post, Surya Sarovar, and the Nathupur Gate. It then proceeded in front of Bhullanpur Railway Station, crossed the Administrative Building Crossing, and finally converged at the BLW Stadium, where the event concluded.
Wide Participation and Key Message
The rally witnessed participation from a diverse cross-section of the BLW and Varanasi community. Senior officials like Ankur Chandra, Chief Vigilance Officer, and Sunil Kumar, Chief Mechanical Engineer (Production & Marketing) who also serves as the General Secretary of the BLW Sports Association, were present to support the cause.
They were joined by officers, coaches, and athletes from various sports academies, personnel from the Railway Protection Force, volunteers from the St John Ambulance Brigade and Civil Defence, and members of the Bharat Scouts and Guides. A large number of BLW employees and local sports enthusiasts also added to the fervour, demonstrating strong community engagement.
The core message that participants aimed to convey to the public was clear and powerful: to integrate cycling into daily life. This initiative is a direct reflection of the Fit India resolve, which champions the idea of a 'Healthy Society and a Bright Future' built on the foundations of regular physical activity.
A Celebration of Fitness and Community Spirit
This grand cycle rally was more than just a commemorative event; it was a public demonstration of commitment to sustainable fitness. By organizing such a large-scale event, the BLW Sports Association and the Fit India initiative successfully highlighted the dual benefits of cycling—improving personal health while being an eco-friendly mode of transport.
The successful completion of one year of 'Sunday on Cycle' campaigns in Varanasi sets a strong precedent, inspiring other institutions and cities to adopt similar regular fitness activities. It underscores the growing cultural shift in India towards prioritizing wellness and adopting simple, effective habits for a healthier tomorrow.
