In Visakhapatnam, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has expressed strong approval for the Union Budget 2026-27, which was presented in Parliament on Sunday. Addressing the media, he characterized the budget as a document marked by clear thinking, deep empathy, firm belief, and the boldness necessary to propel India toward self-reliance, ultimately aiming to transform the nation into a developed entity, or 'Viksit Bharat', by the year 2047.
A Budget for Turbulent Times
Minister Yadav emphasized that, given the current global political instability and various other challenges, this budget represents the most optimal framework possible. He outlined that the financial plan is strategically designed to accomplish three core duties or 'Kartavyas': rapidly boosting economic growth, meeting the evolving aspirations of the citizenry, and advancing the inclusive mission encapsulated in the slogan 'Sab Ka Sath-Sab Ka Vikas'.
Key Sectors Receiving a Boost
The minister warmly welcomed the specific measures announced to bolster several critical sectors of the economy. He pointed to enhanced support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the handloom and textile industries, the biopharmaceutical sector, rare earth minerals, large-scale infrastructure projects, manufacturing, and Special Economic Zones. Yadav noted that these initiatives are not only vital for economic development but are also expected to create significant employment opportunities across the country.
Compassionate Focus on Healthcare and Vulnerable Groups
A particularly compassionate dimension of the budget, according to Yadav, is its focus on healthcare and society's most vulnerable members. He highlighted the welcome measures aimed at empowering these sections to access essential mental health and trauma care services. This includes providing import duty relief on seventeen crucial drugs, including those used in cancer treatment, as well as listing seven rare diseases for similar fiscal benefits to make treatments more affordable.
"The budget's empathetic core is further reflected in the various announcements made for the welfare of farmers, fishermen, weavers, persons with disabilities (divyangs), women, and the youth," the minister added. He also stated that the budget demonstrates the ongoing momentum of the reform agenda initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, evident in continued tax reforms and a renewed commitment to fiscal discipline outlined in the document.
Inauguration of Visakhapatnam's First Pain Clinic
Earlier on the same day, Minister Yadav inaugurated the state's very first dedicated pain clinic at King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he explained that the clinic's services would primarily benefit patients suffering from chronic pain and pain associated with cancer, offering them much-needed relief and specialized care.
He expressed his appreciation for the Andhra Medical College – North America Alumni (AMCANA) association, which generously donated one crore rupees toward the establishment of this vital healthcare facility.
Strengthening Cancer Care in Andhra Pradesh
Elaborating on the state's healthcare vision, Minister Yadav stated, "To reduce the incidence of cancer within the state, provide high-quality healthcare, and raise public awareness, the coalition government has undertaken every possible measure. Looking ahead, a special committee will be established to focus specifically on enhancing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and pain management services. This will further strengthen our comprehensive cancer treatment infrastructure."
He concluded by reaffirming the coalition government's overarching goal: to fortify government medical colleges and ensure that quality healthcare is accessible and affordable for the poor and underprivileged sections of society.
