Kaushar Begum, a 30-year-old resident of Asara village in Baghpat, was brought to the Shamli District Combined Hospital by her family for childbirth. Upon arrival, hospital staff allegedly denied her admission, instructing the family to take her elsewhere. When the family insisted, the staff claimed that labour was not imminent and that she would require surgery at a higher medical facility. Further persistence led to allegations that the staff demanded money, exacerbating the family's distress.
Moments after leaving the hospital premises, Kaushar Begum went into active labour and delivered her baby just outside the hospital gate. Her husband, Mohammad Kaushar, stated that the delivery occurred as they were exiting after being turned away, underscoring the critical timing of the refusal.
