The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a new system to simplify the pension verification process for elderly citizens. Under the 'Family ID' initiative, senior citizens will no longer need to be physically present at government offices for verification. The entire verification system has been centralized, making it more accessible and convenient for the elderly who suffer from age-related ailments.
How the New System Works
Under this system, a call center facility has been introduced for pension applications and verification. Applications are processed through Common Service Centers after obtaining the consent of the elderly over the phone. This eliminates the need for them to travel to government offices, reducing physical strain and bureaucratic hurdles.
Benefits for Elderly Citizens
Ram Shankar Patel, District Social Welfare Officer in Prayagraj, recently highlighted the impact of the scheme. In Prayagraj district alone, over 1.67 lakh elderly residents, including 72,000 women, are currently benefiting from 'The Old Age Pension Scheme'. He stated that these 72,000 elderly women have received a total sum of Rs 86.40 crore for the financial year 2025-26. Additionally, a total amount of Rs 196.80 crore has been disbursed to all elderly beneficiaries in the district.
Streamlined Pension Distribution
The new system ensures timely and transparent distribution of pensions. By centralizing the verification process and leveraging technology, the government aims to reduce delays and errors. The call center facility also provides a direct channel for elderly citizens to seek assistance and track their applications.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance social welfare schemes and improve the quality of life for senior citizens in Uttar Pradesh.
