A 19-year-old woman from Uganda has been admitted to a government hospital in Jaipur after exhibiting symptoms consistent with an Ebola virus infection, health officials confirmed on Friday. However, they emphasized that the disease has not yet been confirmed.
Arrival and Screening
The woman arrived in Jaipur earlier in the day as a tourist on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah. During routine screening at the airport, a medical team from the state health department flagged her as a suspected case. She was immediately transported to the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) hospital, where she has been placed in isolation within a critical care block.
Medical History and Current Condition
According to officials, the woman has a medical history of abdominal pain and loss of appetite lasting approximately one month. Currently, she is also complaining of a headache. These symptoms, while similar to those of Ebola, are not definitive for diagnosis.
Testing and Quarantine Protocols
RUHS Principal Dr. Mohnish Grover stated that a sample from the patient has been sent to Pune for testing. A second sample will be collected and sent after 48 hours. The patient will remain in quarantine until the test results are available. Dr. Grover added, “If the test returns positive, she will be kept under quarantine for 21 days and treated accordingly.”
RUHS Hospital Superintendent Dr. Anil Gupta clarified that the woman has not been diagnosed with Ebola so far, and only symptoms resembling the infection have been observed. “Ebola cannot be confirmed based on symptoms alone,” he said.
Precautionary Measures
Health authorities have advised passengers who traveled with the woman on the same flight to remain in home isolation as a precautionary measure. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and following all prescribed protocols to ensure public safety.
