In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Lalgate police in Surat seized 96.46 grams of MD (Mephedrone) drugs valued at approximately Rs 2.89 lakh and arrested a man during a patrol on Saturday evening. The operation unfolded when three police constables were conducting routine patrol near Sopariwali Gali and noticed a two-wheeler rider behaving suspiciously.
Attempted Escape Leads to Arrest
When the police signaled the rider to stop, the individual attempted to flee the scene. The constables promptly chased and apprehended him after a brief pursuit. A thorough search of the suspect revealed a plastic bag concealed in his pocket, which was later confirmed to contain MD drugs.
Accused Identified
The arrested individual has been identified as Fahez Pathan, a resident of Rander. During interrogation, Pathan disclosed that he had procured the contraband from Abhi Sanjay Singh, a resident of the Variyavi Bazar area. Based on this information, the police have registered a case against both Pathan and Singh under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Investigation Underway
The police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the supply chain and identify any larger network involved in the drug trade. Further arrests are anticipated as the probe progresses. The seizure is part of ongoing efforts by Surat police to curb the illegal drug menace in the city.
Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking to the local authorities. The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a drug-free environment.
