Venomous Snake Discovered in Schoolgirl's Bag in Mysuru, Prompting Expert Rescue

A routine school day in Mysuru took a frightening turn when a third-standard girl student found a venomous snake hidden inside her school bag. The incident occurred as the child, identified as Ruchita, returned home and was about to unpack her books.

Immediate Response and Expert Intervention

Ruchita sensed unusual movement in her bag and immediately dropped it near the garage, alerting her parents to the potential danger. Understanding the gravity of the situation, the family quickly contacted renowned snake rescuer 'Snake' Shyam, who has over 49 years of experience in handling such emergencies.

Shyam, who has rescued more than 98,000 snakes across Mysuru during his career, rushed to their home in Yelwala. Upon arrival, he carefully opened the bag to discover a nearly 2.5-foot-long venomous snake coiled amidst the schoolbooks. With expert precision, he safely captured the reptile and later released it in a suitable habitat, ensuring no harm came to the child or local residents.

Safety Warnings and Preventive Measures

Speaking to TOI, Shyam explained that such incidents often occur when children leave their school bags open in playgrounds or place them on grassy surfaces where snakes may seek shelter. He strongly urged parents to advise children to keep their bags securely zipped and to check their belongings thoroughly before use.

Shyam also issued a caution regarding rising temperatures, noting that snakes tend to move towards cool and shaded areas during warmer weather. This behavior increases the likelihood of encounters in residential localities. He emphasized that children playing outdoors, especially during the summer holidays, should remain particularly alert when entering bushes or handling outdoor items.

This alarming incident serves as a critical reminder for families to prioritize safety measures and stay vigilant in snake-prone areas.
