A new case of Shigella infection has been confirmed in Kerala's Wayanad district, bringing the total number of reported cases to nine, according to the district medical officer. This development comes as health authorities continue to monitor the situation among students in the region.

The district medical officer stated that a total of 14 samples were collected from the 514 students who initially exhibited symptoms of the bacterial infection. These samples were sent for laboratory testing to confirm the presence of Shigella bacteria. Among these, one more sample tested positive, raising the tally to nine confirmed cases.

Health officials have intensified surveillance and are closely tracking the health status of the affected students. Necessary precautions and treatments are being administered to those infected.
