Rajasthan Health Department to Launch Comprehensive Study on Ambulance Services
The health department in Rajasthan has announced a major initiative to enhance emergency medical services across the state. A statewide study will be conducted to pinpoint areas where ambulance services are failing to reach patients in a timely manner. This strategic move aims to address critical gaps in emergency response and improve overall healthcare accessibility.
Expansion of 108 Ambulance Network with 250 New Vehicles
Based on the findings from the study, the department plans to roll out 250 new ambulances over the next 12 months. This expansion is designed to strengthen patient transportation infrastructure and significantly reduce emergency response times. Currently, Rajasthan operates a fleet of more than 1,100 ambulances under the 108 ambulance service, and this proposed addition will focus on improving coverage in underserved regions.
A senior health department official emphasized that the state government is committed to reinforcing and expanding the existing 108 ambulance network. The study will meticulously map gaps in availability and response times, providing data-driven insights to determine optimal locations for stationing the new ambulances.
Need-Based Deployment with Priority to High-Risk Areas
Deployment of the additional ambulances will be strictly need-based, with priority given to locations where delays are frequent and where factors such as distance or challenging terrain hinder timely access to emergency care. The primary objective is to ensure quicker reach to patients, particularly in time-sensitive medical emergencies like heart attacks, accidents, and other critical conditions.
The department will also actively seek suggestions from district administrations to identify local problem areas. Inputs are expected to highlight remote, rural, and hard-to-reach regions where ambulance access is currently limited and travel times are prolonged. This collaborative approach aims to gather grassroots insights for more effective planning.
Guiding Allocation for Improved Last-Mile Connectivity
The findings from the study and district inputs will guide the allocation of resources, ensuring that additional ambulances are strategically positioned to enhance last-mile connectivity. This initiative is set to strengthen the emergency medical response system across Rajasthan, making healthcare more responsive and reliable for all residents, especially those in vulnerable and isolated communities.
