A serious fire broke out at a nursing home located in the Ashok Nagar Colony under the Kankarbagh area of Patna on Wednesday, leading to a high-stakes rescue operation. According to fire department officials, the blaze was caused by a short circuit in the G+3 residential-cum-nursing home building, sparking immediate panic and emergency response efforts.

Staff at the nursing home initially attempted to douse the flames themselves, but the situation quickly escalated as smoke began filling patient rooms, causing severe breathing difficulties and suffocation risks. This prompted them to alert fire officials, setting off a large-scale rescue mission.
Fire brigade teams, led by State Fire Officer Manoj Nat, rushed to the scene with approximately six fire engines, rescue tenders, and hydraulic equipment dispatched from Kankarbagh and Lodipur stations. In a coordinated and urgent operation, firefighters evacuated patients and staff members, ensuring their safety amidst the chaotic conditions.

Manoj Nat confirmed that the fire originated from electric sparks following a short circuit, which rapidly filled the rooms with dense smoke. He stated, "The fire was caused by electric sparks following a short circuit. The rooms were filled with smoke, leading to suffocation. Around 10 to 15 patients were rescued safely." The fire was brought under control after about one hour and 18 minutes of intense firefighting efforts.
While no casualties were reported, the incident resulted in significant damage to the building structure. Medical equipment and furniture were gutted in the blaze, highlighting the destructive impact of the fire on the healthcare facility.
