The health department in Himachal Pradesh has confirmed that only two tuberculosis (TB) cases were detected in a nursing hostel in Rampur, alleviating concerns of a widespread outbreak. Following reports of suspected TB cases, the department swiftly initiated a comprehensive screening drive, testing over 200 residents of the hostel.
Swift Response and Screening
Upon receiving initial reports, the health authorities mobilized a medical team to conduct thorough examinations. All residents were screened using chest X-rays and sputum tests. The results revealed that only two individuals tested positive for TB, and they have been promptly isolated for treatment.
Treatment and Preventive Measures
The two affected individuals are currently receiving standard TB treatment under the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program (RNTCP). The health department has also initiated contact tracing to identify any potential exposure. Preventive therapy has been administered to close contacts as a precautionary measure.
Reassurance to the Public
Dr. R.K. Gupta, the district health officer, assured the public that the situation is under control. He emphasized that there is no cause for panic and that all necessary steps have been taken to prevent further spread. The hostel premises have been sanitized, and awareness campaigns about TB symptoms and precautions are being conducted among residents.
The health department continues to monitor the situation closely and has urged anyone with persistent cough, fever, or weight loss to seek medical attention immediately. The Rampur nursing hostel remains open, with routine health checks in place.
